Week 6.2 taking on feedback
Icecream Jump » Devlog
This DevLog follows on from the previous, taking feedback from the game testing earlier this week.
In total, 6 feedback forms were submitted. Here is a summary of the results:
- Overall enjoyment of the game was surprisingly good, however likely people being nice.
- Demographic of testers was somewhat diverse with various ages, games played, computer specs and gender.
- A number of comment suggestions were concerned with colors, and difficultly of seeing differences.
- Levels 1 -3 were received reasonably well on difficulty, however level 4 was too difficult for most. With level 5 being seemingly easier, this could be due to only the good players passing level 4 and reaching level 5 so to speak.
- Overall art was reasonably well received, however hands looked out of place. Ice creams, speech bubbles and top of screen text were sometimes hard to see.
- Transitions between music and ambiance could be improved to be timed with the game.
- The game ran without many performance problems, however loading times were a little too long for some.
- Level 3 could also be changed to give more path options.
Given this useful feedback, I have gone and implemented fixes and changes to address most of the suggestions.
Additions:
- On screen touch controls, was developed for android app builds but could also be used in browser on tablet or mobile.
Fixes:
- Made change certain colors to make ice creams more distinguishable to help with colorblindness, this was a seemingly frequent issue, and affects many people.
- Made level 4 easier. This was done by changing the timings of orders and their patience.
- Changed the text on the top of the game to be more visible using bold text.
- Changed the skin color of the hands to better match the main character's in order for it to look less out of place.
- Added a block in level 3 to add another path option to move around the map.
This might be the last DevLog for now Depending on KIT109 specs and feedback. I'd also like to get it into the google play store, but we'll see. I'll be sure to make a DevLog if or when I do.
